UPVC is not highly recommended in places found in the tropics due to the sun’s frequent emission of non-visible radiation called the ultraviolet light. When constantly exposed to UV rays, the long average lifespan of a UPVC window / door is compromised thus unwanted material reactions occur such as:
- Fading
- Peeling
- Warfing
The brilliance and freshness of the colour slowly fades and so as the material’s resistance to impact.

The risk of peel-offs are higher with UPVC coated in brown / wood laminations like dark oak, mahogany and walnut. The laminate detaches itself causing uneven surfaces and appearance.

The frames become deformed, bent or twisted out of shape due to overexposure to heat.

UPVCs are more suited for countries with cooler climates. If you want to have UPVC doors and windows in tropical regions, it would better choose a white engrained finish where the risks of discoloration and deformation is minimized. A more viable option would be to opt for aluminum doors and windows in powder coated or wood grain finish as it is made to last in tropical places such as Philippines.
